bullet  General Notes:

[Dorcas Tydeman Ancestors.ged]

No baptism record has been found for Edmund but from censu s and burial records he was born about 1789 in Earl Stonham . This is consistent with the record of his education in Ea rl Stonham from 1797 to 1799. He grew up to be an agricult ural labourer and was clearly from the poorer side of the f amily.

It is probable that his grand parents were Clarke (1739-75 ) & Rachael Palmer. Clark & Rachael's second child Leman (1 765-1800) married Ann Harvey (1788, Creeting St Peters). Th e first child of Leman & Ann was baptised Margaret (1788 , Creeting all Saints) followed by Edward (1791, Stonham Pa rva). Their third child Leman and three subsequent childre n were all baptised in Earl Stonham.

Although the parish record of Edward's baptism is very clea r there are no further records of this Edward and it is pos sible that the name should have read "Edmund" . The marriag e of Edward's youger brother Leman to Elizabeth Hayward wa s witnessed by an Edmund Tydeman and the signature is disti nctive and identical to that of Edmund's at his own marria ge to Elizabeth Hayward's sister Ann Browse Hayward.

This strongly suggests that Edmund & Leman were brothers an d that "Edward" should be "Edmund". It is not clear why h e was baptised in Stonham Parva; possible his family were l iving in that parish at the time.

An alternative identity for Edmund is as the son of Edmun d (1771-1853) & Sarah Quinton. Edmund was the 5th child o f Clarke & Rachael. Their son Edmund was baptised in 1800 ( at Earl Stonham; two years before his parents marriage). I t seems unlikely that his baptism would have taken place so me 10 years after his birth and this identity for Edmund se ems improbable.
